Job Title: Safety, Health and Environment Specialist

Job Description:

BAE Systems Australia's Maritime business encompasses shipbuilding, maintenance, repair, upgrade, conversion, fabrication, design, engineering and support to the Defence, commercial maritime and resources industries. These activities are conducted from a variety of facilities in Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales.
Applications are now sought from suitably qualified and experienced safety professionals to manage safety, health and environment activity, programs and initiatives at Garden Island in Sydney, New South Wales.

Your principal accountabilities will include:

• Developing, supporting and where required delivering relevant safety, health and environment training and inductions
• Assisting the project and facility personnel to identify safety, health and environment hazards and risks for inclusion in risk registers
• Ensuring project compliance with incident reporting requirements and where appropriate assist with and/or lead incident investigations
• Providing ongoing performance related reporting data
• Providing safety, health and environment advice for the project and facility in relation to processes, business rules, legislation and standards
• Coordinating and participating in safety, health and environment certification and surveillance audits
• Developing and maintaining annual safety, health and environment improvement and compliance plan
• Liaising with other safety, health and environment personnel to develop an integrated safety, health and environment management system
• Monitoring legislative changes and compliance

As the ideal applicant, you will have:

• Relevant qualifications in occupational health and safety or a related discipline
• Solid safety, health and environment system development, implementation and reporting experience
• Whilst not essential, previous leadership experience will be highly regarded

• Knowledge of AS4801/OHSAS18001
• Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety framework and compliance requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Solid Microsoft Office skills
• Eligibility to obtain Defence security clearance
